In draw poker a full hand is dealt face down. A small amount of chips (or money – the bet) is placed on the table before the players proceed to look at their cards. This is known as an Ante. Cards that are not useful or needed, are discarded, and replaced by drawing or re-dealing. The replacement of cards is followed by what is traditionally called a betting-round. Then a showdown occurs- players expose and compare their cards to determine the winner of the hand. This briefly summarizes draw poker.

There are different types of draws.

A flush draw or a four flush is when a player has four cards in his possession (of the same suit) and needs a fifth card to make a flush.

A straight draw poker refers to a straight sequence in the numbers of the cards requiring a draw that is favorable to complete the “straight.” An inside straight is when you have a hand with four of the five cards and you need one more to complete the straight – the one missing in the middle, for example: 9-8-x-6-5. This is also called gut-shot or belly-buster draw. An outside straight is four of the five needed cards and you can complete the hand at either end. This is also known as open-ended draw or up and down draw.

A back door draw is when a card needs two more cards of the suit to win (or two outs). It is very difficult to get a back door draw, and it is pure luck. This draw is also known as runner-runner draw. It is a matter of chance.

The most popular kind of draw poker is the one called five stud draw poker or five card draw. The first deal usually tells you the chance that you have to win. Hence, if you see your chances of winning diminished by the first deal, it is best to fold, as winning is almost impossible with a bad first deal.

There are only a handful of casino games that you can actually win with skill and not just luck and Blackjack is one of them. That means that if you learn and use a basic blackjack strategy then you can have a real and true advantage over the other players and even the casino! By using a basic blackjack strategy you can leave the table a winner. At the bottom of this article you will find a basic blackjack strategy that has been put in a very simple and usable way.

Generally speaking the blackjack strategy has been created on the basis of mathematical probabilities that exist in the game and the mathematics of it will help to guide you to finding the best choices that can be made during every situation throughout the game. For most people it will only an hour or so to actually memorize this information but it will be much more than worth it to take the time to do it! This doesn’t mean that you’ll win each and every blackjack hand, however, with the extra assistance of this blackjack strategy, a little patience and a little persistence, and you will significantly advance your chances of winning many of your hands.

Do know that some of the blackjack rules will vary from casino to casino. You will see that even in actual casino’s and the internet casinos that the rules will change ever so slightly. Some will play with two deck and some will only play with one. On top of that, there are some casinos that have their dealers hit on soft 17’s and others will require the dealer to stand on a 17 no matter what.

Here is an example of the basic strategy being used in a one deck blackjack hand when the dealer actually hits on the soft 17. Playing by other blackjack rules will mean that you would need to make some minor adjustments.

First, here is a short introduction to the terms mentioned here:
Hard Hand: two initial cards that do not include an Ace.
Soft Hand: two initial cards that one of them is an Ace
Stand: when a player is not asking to be dealt more cards after the two initial cards.

Hit: when a player calls for an additional card to be dealt
Double: when a player doubles his initial bet after the initial deal, but it requires him to hit only one card.

Split: when a player separates the initial two cards into two individual hands and plays them as 2 hands.

Finally, here is a basic blackjack strategy:

When your initial two card hand sums up to 8 or less: hit

When your hand sums up to 9 and the dealer hand value is between 3 and 6: double if else: hit

When your hand sums up to 10 and the dealer hand value is between 2 and 9: double; if else:

When your hand sums up to 11 and the dealer hand value is between 2 and 10: double; if else hit.

When your hand sums up to 13, 14, 15, or 16 and the dealer hand value is between 2 and 6: stand; if else hit.

When your hand sums up to 17: stand.

When your initial two card hand contains Ace 2 or Ace 3 and the dealer has either 5 or 6: double; if else: hit.

When your hand contains Ace 4 or Ace 5 and the dealer has 4, 5 or 6: double; if else: hit.

When your hand contains Ace 6 and the dealer has 3, 4, 5 or 6: double; if else: hit.

When your hand contains Ace 7 and the dealer has 2, 7 or 8: stand; if he has 3, 4, 5 or 6: double; if else: hit.

When your hand contains Ace 8 or Ace 9: stand

When your hand contains a pair of 2s or 3s and the dealer hand value is between 2 and 7: split; if else: hit

When your hand contains a pair of 4s and the dealer has either 4 or 5: split; if else: hit

When your hand contains a pair of 5s and the dealer hand value is between 2 and 9: double; if else: hit

When your hand contains a pair of 6s and the dealer hand value is between 2 and 6: split; if else: hit

When your hand contains a pair of 7s and the dealer hand value is between 2 and 7: split; if else: hit

When your hand contains a pair of 9s and the dealer hand value is between 2 and 7 and either 8 or 9: split; if else: stand

When your hand contains a pair of 8s: split

When your hand contains a pair of 8s: split

When your hand contains a pair of 10s: stand

Do you play the slot machines, but don’t like the feel of a casino? Do you play poker but the casinos are too noisy, bright and smoky? Have you ever played video poker? Consider these online video poker tips for a new form of free gambling excitement at home.

If you’ve become bored with playing slot machines, video poker could be a new and exciting game to challenge you. Instead of endlessly pulling the handle of a slot machine, hoping for a row of identical icons, try playing video poker instead. Going in to the game, you already have an advantage; the house stakes in is form of poker are lower than slot machines. There are no dealers, no other players ostentatiously better than you, no rakes, bluffing or cheating. You’re in your own casino and dependent on your own poker skills.

How to Play:

Knowledge of basic draw poker and the rank of cards in your hand are necessary, as video poker has several variations. One form uses all 52 original cards, while another uses the deck plus additional wild cards. However, all variations of the game are based on regular draw poker, so knowing how to play draw is a necessity.

Start by deciding the value of the coins, and how many you wish to bet. Click on “Deal”, and you will be dealt five cards. You may keep your hand, or trade one or more cards for new ones. Press the “Hold” button beneath the cards you wish to keep. Just like draw poker, new cards are generated to replace them. When you trade and receive your new cards, it’s called a draw (thus the name, draw poker). The resulting cards in your hand from this draw determine whether you win or lose.

The payout table is available at any time on all machines, and details how many coins you will win based on a variety of bet values. This is called the “payout”. Payouts vary from one video poker game to another. This table will also show you the minimum hand you must build in order to qualify for a payout, as this too differs from one online casino to another.

Video poker odds are the same as live draw poker. The standard 52-card deck produces more than 2.5 million hand combinations. A random number generator, simulating the odds of drawing different card combinations, sets machine. In a regular live draw poker game, the casino is ensured a profit by collecting a rake. In video poker, the hypothetical house profits by setting each payout table differently.

Video Poker Tips:

1. Know where to find the machine payouts table and choose the one that will bring you the highest returns.

2. Your strategy may shift depending on the video poker game you choose to play. Change up your strategy, just as you would in regular live poker.

3. Formulate a mathematical strategy if possible.

4. Don’t keep cards that can’t be used to form a winning hand – Discard them.

5. If you have a high card and a low pair in your hand, always keep the pair and trade in the high card.

6. If you hold a pair, along with a partial flush or straight, bet on the pair.

The best part of playing video poker games online, is that there is no lack of virtual casinos, each offering you the opportunity to play endlessly, using fake money, from the comfort of your own home – and alone!

If you are new to playing poker you will find there are a lot of things to learn and remember. A list of what to look out for when you are dealt your hand in Texas Holdem will be useful.

These are the best possible things that you can see when you look at your cards:

Pair of Aces, “American Airlines” or “pocket rockets”. This is what everyone hopes to see when they pick up their cards. It’s as good as it gets.

Pair of Kings. Second best means there’s only one opening hand that can beat yours.

Pair of Queens. You should be feeling pretty optimistic if this is what you pick up.

Ace and King. This is the best unmatched pair, especially if they are suited, which gives you a chance of getting a nut flush.

Pair of Jacks. This often does well, although if there’s a higher card in the flop you may be unlucky.

Ace and Queen. Offers the same possibilities for a flush as the Ace and King, and with two high cards you’re starting in a really solid position.

King and Queen. If they’re the same suit you’re especially lucky. Any Aces turning up in the community cards could be a threat, though.

Ace and Jack. It might not seem that great, but it’s worth playing on with this hand, because there are a lot of worse combinations that could be sitting around the table.

King and Jack.. Unless your cards are suited you are taking a bit of a risk with this hand. You’ve got two fairly high cards, but be aware that you’re not as lucky as you could be.

Ace and Ten. The Ace makes this a pretty good start, but all of the hands that have been described so far are better, so take care.

Once you have learned to recognize how good your hand is, then you will be in a much better position to know how to proceed in the game. The key to poker is being able to decide when you should hold and when you need to fold. Discretion is often the better part of valor, and one of the most important things you will learn is to be able to give up when your cards are really not worth the risk.

If you’re playing Texas Holdem and you receive one of the following hands, then folding is probably your best option. There may be ways of working with these cards in other versions of poker, however. Here they are from least dreadful to the absolute worst.

5 and 9, or “Dolly Parton”. There’s not much point going on if you’re dealt this hand.

2 and 10. You might have heard of Doyle Brunson’s amazing WSOP wins after beginning with these cards, but unless you are playing at the same level as him, you’re not likely to do well with this start.

2 or 3 or 4 and 9. The 9 is a fairly high card, but if it’s all you’ve got going for you your prospects don’t look good. Should you happen to get a pair for your 9 you can still be beaten by plenty of other hands, and there’s no way you can make a straight.

2 and 6. If by incredible chance you manage to add a 3, 4 and 5 to this hand you’ll have a straight. I wouldn’t bet on it though- especially if you’re playing with more than three people.

3 and 7 or 8. You can beat someone with a 2 in the place of your 3, but it’s not worth risking anything on this hand. You can’t get much worse than this.

2 and 7 or 8. This is one of the most depressing sights you can see. You won’t be able to get a straight. If they’re not even suited then you haven’t even got a chance of making a low flush.

Are you tired of spending your leisure time playing the usual regular solitaire game? Has relaxing and having a little fun become, well, boring? Why not learn a different form of solitaire? One game has been popular since the time of the California Gold Rush, so it carries its own history of providing amusement, relaxation, and fun. The name of the game is Klondike.

In our recent history, computers preloaded with the game of solitaire began to appear in every household, classroom, and office. The electronic choice of card games was the game solitaire, which became popular because it’s easy to learn and play, and is always accessible. Klondike is simple, and can easily become addictive. When the novelty wore off the game, interest in it waned. People were bored with it, so different variations of the card game solitaire began to proliferate, and the most popular version was Klondike.

It’s ironic that people gravitated towards Klondike for a new game, because the card game has a documented history. According to historians, the game of Klondike began in the late 1900’s. The gold miners in the mountains of California and Alaska grew tired of the usual game of solitaire, and relieved their boredom by inventing a new version of an old game, called Klondike.

How to Play Klondike

It’s a simple game to learn and you’ll catch on immediately. It then will become an important amusement during any recreation time you have on your agenda. It’s invigorating and fun, and can become a harmless addiction. The first step is laying out the cards.

-Begin by drawing a card, and putting it in front of you, face up.

-Place six cards, face down, to the left of the first card.

-Put another card, face up, to the left of the original card.

-Add one more card, face down, on top (or slightly down), starting a column of sequential numbers and suits. Then, add one more card, face up, and continue to build the column.

-You should end up with the last column made up of seven cards. You should have in your hand, a total of 24 cards to play with.

Next Step

The object of the game is to eventually place all the cards of the same suit, in numerical sequence, on top of the four aces, which show up sporadically. When an ace appears, place it to the side or above the columns, and begin to build the sequences, in order, i.e. follow an ace with a two, then three, and so on, up to the kings, in numerical order and by suit. A sample would be if an ace of diamonds is open, it must be followed by the King of Diamonds, then the Queen, and so on down the numbers. When base cards, face down, can be turned over, you may alternate the colored suits, building a column of a sequence of red and black cards.

Opening a New Card

When you have cards that are facing up, you can open the next card under them. The same rule applied to usual solitaire is that whenever you have moved all the cards in a column, leaving a blank space, you may move a an open king over and start a new sequence.

Moving a Card to Build a Sequence

You can move one sequence of cards to another base, and the sole rule is that you must keep the cards in descending order.

Using the Card in Hand

Turn over the top three cards that are left in your hand, as they may be an addition, perhaps a winning addition. When all possibilities of using each card are exhausted, continue to turn over three cards at a time and keep in mind that you may use only the top card to continue a column, and if it is used, you may use the next card, if you can. Repeat this until you have no cards left. Want to play again?

Two player card games are often played for fun and are relatively easy to learn. These two player card games can be easily played with just a typical deck of cards:

• Bezique uses four sets of 32 cards. A widely played variety of Bezique is called Rubicon Bezique. All players receive 9 cards and the rest become the stock. Each cards combination has different point. Another variation of Bezique is Pinochle. Bezique is not normally considered as a demanding card game, though memorizing possible scoring and meld combinations can be disorienting for a complete beginner.

• Cribbage uses a deck of regular 52 cards. The game has a scoring device that is referred to as the Cribbage Board. All players get six cards. The goal of the game is to get up to 31 cards. All players score points for a series. A card game called as Costly Colours is similar to Cribbage.

• Speed is a two player card game of shedding variant. In this game, all players try to remove all of their cards. Speed is closely related to other card game known as Nertz. Each player gets five cards to make a hand, and a player also gets fifteen facedown cards to make a drawing pile. If the game is played with Jokers, it can be treated as a wild card. A common method is to memorize all cards that are down so you don’t need to see them all when playing. This tactic is particularly useful very early in a round if you are more focused and have better memory compared to your opponent.

• Piquet, until early twentieth century, it was perhaps the most widely two-player card game in France, just like Cribbage in UK. It was first became well known in UK after the royal marriage of King Philip II of Spain and Queen Mary I in 1554. At the time the game was called as Cent, after a Spanish game called Cientos.

• Go Fish is an easy card game often played by children. You ask your opponent for cards of certain rank. Your opponent must place all cards of a specific rank. If your opponent has no cards of the rank, he/she says Go Fish. Then you draw a card from the pool (or ocean) and your opponent start the next turn. The game stops when all cards are drawn, and all books are used. Whoever gets the most books wins the game.

Casinos invest millions of dollars each year in surveillance and monitoring systems just to nab gamblers who try to count cards. While counting cards in poker is not illegal, it is usually enough of a concern to casinos as they can reduce profits. Many casinos may go to any length to safeguard their interests. These techniques may help you to avoid being caught counting cards during poker games:

Using Progression Betting

Most casinos despise card counters, but they do love progression betting. That’s because nearly all progressions don’t work. You should learn how to do progressions and find ways to make all of your bets seem like progression betting. While counting cards, sometimes you should increase your bets when you are losing and the count is poor; likewise, occasionally lower the bets if you are winning and the count is good. Break the pattern with progression betting.

Pretending to be Drunk:

It works if you are not too sensitive to alcohol. Surely, playing gambling games without full alertness is going to cause bad effects to your game. And if the casino believes that you’re a drunk, it may not suspect that you are counting cards. Of course, casinos aren’t that naive. If you are winning consistently while acting drunk, the pit boss may ask the waitress what you are drinking. So you may need to drink something strong while playing. If you want to improve your chance during card counting, it is recommended that you eat a full meal before playing, and act like a bit tipsy before ordering a drink.

Using Camouflage Strategy:

Camouflage means to blend in with the background. Some players do this well while observing and trying to copy others around them. If most players play smartly; follow them and if others are superstitious and sloppy, it is also prudent to copy them. It could be easy to disguise card counting this way, however it’s probably hard to maintain consistent playing style.

Pretending to Be Clueless:

This could work for you if you are a good actor/actress. Ask your opponents what to do, or ask idiotic questions. Or, maybe, you could act like a poker genius but offer bad advices to others. You can deliberately make common novice mistakes. If you are winning, try to lose a small amount on purpose; then try to win when the bet is bigger. The fastest way to ruin your chances in disguising card counting is by being greedy.

There’s big money and big fun to be had playing live poker in tournaments, but there are a few tips that will really help you on the way to winning. There are plenty of ways you can optimize your game and avoid ending up a loser. These are the tricks that have helped many an experienced poker player on their way to the top of the pack.

One mistake that many novices make, under the pressure of their first live tournament, is to have a few drinks too many. However confident it may make you feel, being drunk is not going to make you play any better, and in fact is likely to result in silly mistakes that cost you your money. Keep track of what you’re drinking, and make sure you know your limits. That way you won’t end up missing out on the chance to play later in the game, because you’ve incapacitated yourself by drinking too much earlier on. If you do drink, do it sensibly and pace yourself so that you can play to your best ability through the whole night. Make sure that you have plenty of non-alcoholic drinks as well, because alcohol can be very dehydrating.

When you enter the room, try and make yourself as comfortable as possible before the game begins. It is a good idea to sit where you can face the dealer as squarely as possible, because it will make you feel that you are involved in a game with them specifically. You lose this influence if you are sitting next to the person dealing the cards. Your seat should allow you a good view of the rest of the players, and you should be able to settle into a position that suits you. Don’t force yourself into an uncharacteristic stance, or try to hold a position that doesn’t feel natural to you. You should sit in a way that doesn’t cause you to shift or fidget, and which you don’t have to waste your energy thinking about, or feeling uncomfortable in. It is when you are relaxed and comfortable that you are least likely to give away clues as to your state of mind- and the state of your cards.

Be aware of the body language that most commonly gives away useful information. Inexperienced players often show their game by the way they sit, leaning their elbows on the table, or resting their cards in the bumper. Do what you can to avoid giving anything away during the game. Other players will always try and guess what cards you are holding, from your tone of voice, your expressions and your body language. You will also want to do the same to them, and to try to hide your own tells. You may want to try giving subtle hints that you are disappointed with your cards, when a particularly good hand comes up, for example. You should enter the tournament armed with a range of different strategies for concealing your game and confusing your opponents. Try not to rely too much on just one approach.

When you get a break, make the most of it. Don’t waste time discussing what’s already gone on in the game, or making small talk. This is your chance to have a short rest, recover your energy, and perhaps most importantly of all, to visit the bathroom.

The main thing is to come prepared and ready to learn from more experienced players. Playing for real money and against really serious tournament players can be fun, exciting and profitable.

Online poker offers a great way to practice against real players, and to join in without having to leave the comfort of your own home.

Coping with any addiction is challenging, but it is commonly held that the first step towards recovery is admitting that there is a problem. If you know someone who you fear is struggling with an addiction to gambling, then here are a few ways in which you can make sure you offer them the best support you can.

The sufferer will often turn away from their family and the people who care for them most, making it very difficult for people to provide the help that is needed to get them through this difficult and painful situation. Deciding to offer you support can be a tough choice to make, because your friend or relative may not seem to want your help, and can often make it very hard for you to be around them. You will not find this an easy task to undertake. Each step can be difficult to achieve, but it is vital to do all you can to help your loved one through their problem.

One major way in which you can help is to prevent the gambling addict from getting access to your money and valuables. Keep anything that they could use to get money for gambling out of their sight. If you live together, then you will need to hide or lock away these items in a place where the addict will not be able to get at them, or even to take them out of the house and deposit them at the bank. If you have some control over their finances, for instance if you have shared accounts, or if you are the parent of the addict, then you will need to shut off their access to this money. Hopefully you will be able to recognize the problem and act before they have spent too much. It is not uncommon to find that large amounts of your savings have gone when you discover that your partner has been gambling uncontrollably. Prevent the addict from accessing their accounts, and call up the credit card company to cancel their cards.

At a certain point you will be faced with the necessity of confronting the addict directly. The most important thing to remember is that getting angry and shouting at them is unlikely to help. Prepare yourself and try to keep calm. Let them know just how much they have hurt you, and what the effect of their addiction has been on the people around them. Choose a time when you can gather a group of close relatives and friends around them so that you do not have to face this difficult moment alone, and so that the addicted person can see how much you all care for them, and what they have made the people closest to them suffer. Everyone should take the opportunity to speak and explain how the addiction and its effect on the addict’s behavior has made them feel. Make sure that everyone is prepared to act in a calm way. Your goal is to help the addict to see what a real problem they have, in the hope of getting them to admit that something is seriously wrong. This is not about making accusations or getting angry about your grievances.

Confronting the problem is not going to solve it. Don’t assume that once you have all spoken to the addict they will be able to return to their old self and give up gambling. What you should be hoping to achieve at this stage is to get the addict to see that they need help, and to put them on the way to getting the professional support and advice that will help them through this.

Your loved one may appear to recover after you have confronted them, but often this will end in a relapse. In many cases, the addict will continue to gamble until they are shocked into accepting that they have become addicted. Unfortunately this means that they must get into a situation in which they feel utterly alone and hopeless, separated from their family, alienated from their friends, and having nothing of value left in their lives. It may seem cruel, or even impossible, but if you are left with no other alternative, and the addict continues gambling after you have tried to confront them, you may need to be willing to push them out of your life. You can only hope that they will then come to realize the significance of their addiction, and make their own move towards recovery, at which point you can be ready to give them the help they need.

Once the addict is willing to confront their own problem, there are good support systems in place for gambling addicts. Gamblers Anonymous provides a great service for long-term recovery, but many addicts will be better served by beginning with individual counseling sessions or visits to a psychologist who specializes in treating this addiction.

More comprehensive information on the services available for those with gambling addictions, and advice on how to cope if you believe a loved one has become addicted to gambling, is available from Gamblers Anonymous and the website of codependence.
